Parent Reviews

Gina Trent is an excellent writing teacher.  She takes a personal interest in each of her students, and very accurately assesses her students’ strengths and weaknesses.  She has a lot of experience and it definitely shows.  She has much higher standards for the kids than I have seen in their regular high school English classes, and hence encourages them to reach higher.  Both of my sons have really enjoyed having her as a teacher, even though they had to put in the work.  I highly recommend her. -- Z.K., parent

There are so many reasons to love Gina.  She’s a teacher who’s in this for noble reasons – actually educating children and not just hitting checklists.  She is instilling a deep understanding of literature and tackles difficult concepts with care and ease.  I wish I could have been exposed to learning the way she teaches, but I’m glad my son has the opportunity to learn from her. – Shalina Vohra, parent

Of all the classes our daughter has taken, the one that has stretched her the most (in the best sense) is a literature-based course taught by Gina Trent. Our daughter developed a much deeper understanding and broader context for her reading. Gina taught our daughter how to be more empathetic, to put herself in other's shoes. She is an incredibly gifted educator.  – Jennifer Bodenrader, parent

Student Reviews

Mrs. Trent’s English class is the best English class I have ever taken. When Mrs. Trent asks a question regarding something that happened in a book or short story, she allows us all to weigh in with our own opinions on what happened, rather than making one answer the only right answer. We always discuss meaningful topics and delve deep into what an author meant or was trying to say--something that never happened in my previous English classes…. Mrs. Trent is always there to help and provide feedback. She is someone who cares immensely about her students’ education, and she puts so much time and effort into teaching us. Mrs. Trent is the writing teacher that every person needs! -- F.Z., Age 13

I like that there is a lot of open discussion in Ms. Trent’s class and that it isn’t too formal….  Her method of teaching writing, focusing on mastering paragraphs before moving on to essays, and allowing us to critique each other’s work, has been very helpful.  Plus she’s such a cheery person, which is awesome! -- A.J., age 15

[Ms. Trent’s] directions and feedback were always clear and easy to follow, and the readings and writing prompts she chose were always interesting -- much more than what I’ve been given in Pomona College! Most importantly, she gave us the sense that she really cared about us, and knowing that made it much easier to learn from her and accept her constructive criticism. -- I.K., age 16
